What Happened

On Tuesday, January 26th, our technical team was able to uncover suspicious activity on several of  our hosted WordPress sites. After a full scale audit and investigation it is clear that the culprits were targeting  vulnerable WordPress sites, their complete motive is unknown but they were able to create an admin user and successfully login to several sites.

The Positive News
Not only was our team at New Media One quickly spot this and prevent any further breach, but we were able to confirm that all sites protected under our  Word Press Lockdown  plan were protected and unaffected by this attack.

We were fortunate to detect this attack quickly and have since removed the injected user and files. These attacks are ever evolving, but there are things we can do to thwart them.

What You Should Do

Lockdown your WordPress site from malicious activity with our monthly security maintenance package that secures and protects your site for just $50/month.

With our monthly security package, your site is protected through automatic monitoring, manual file and plugin updates, site file locking and third party firewall implementation.

An initial scan of the site, cleaning files if needed, then keeping ALL themes, plugins and files up-to-date. We then use our WordPress Lockdown tool to ensure everything stays secure. In addition, we setup your site to be protected by CloudFlare’s web application firewall, which blocks known WordPress vulnerable URLs and IP addresses. Cloudflare will likely increase your site’s loading speed and provide an easy to use DNS service. Also, included in our monthly plan is an SSL certificate issued by Let’s Encrypt!

It is estimated that over 30% of the websites on the internet today run on WordPress, which means a big payoff for anyone who can compromise the software or its MANY plugins. New Media One’s WordPress Lockdown offers security and peace of mind. Contact us by email at or phone 303.828.9882 for more information.
