Netscape Communicator Setup

To show the exact settings for your email adddress, enter your email address below.

1. Launch Netscape 6.0

  • Use your mouse to click on the Start menu.
  • Mouseover Programs to display the secondary Programs menu.
  • Mouseover Netscape 6.0 and click once to launch the Netscape browser.
  • If Netscape 6.0 does not appear on the Programs menu, review your software installation process.

2. Launch the Mail Client

  • Once the browser is active click on the Tasks menu.
  • Mouseover Mail and click once to open the Netscape mail client.
  • Netscape Mail will launch within the Netscape v 6.0 browser
    (if the Account Wizard box appears after this step, click once on the Cancel button and proceed with Step 3).

3. Open Account Settings Window

  • Click once on the Edit menu to display the secondary menu.
  • Mouseover the Mail/News Account Settings to launch the Account Setup Wizard.

4. Launch the Account Wizard

  • Click the New Account button to launch the Account Wizard.

  • Check the radio button for ISP or email provider.
  • Click Next.

6. Identity Screen

  • In the Your Name Field enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From field when you send messages.
  • Enter youraddress@yourdomain.com in the E-mail address field.
  • Click Next.

7. Server Information Screen

  • Incoming Server
  • Select POP3 from the server type drop down list.
  • For the Incoming Server enter mail.yourdomain.com in the Server Name field.
  • Outgoing Server Server
  • For the Outgoing (SMTP) Server again enter mail.yourdomain.com in the Server Name field.
  • Click Next.

8. User Name Screen

  • Enter youraddress@yourdomain.com in the User Name field.
  • Click Next.

9. Account Name Screen

  • Enter yourdomain.com in the Account Name field.
  • Click Next.

10. Save Settings

  • After clicking Next in step 9 the Congratualtions screen seen below should be displayd.
  • Click Finish to save your settings.

11. Update Outgoing (SMTP) Server

  • After clicking finish in step 10 above the Account Settings Window should be active.
    If it isn't refer to step 3 above to open the window.
  • Click once on the Outgoing (SMTP) Server option in the left pane to bring up the SMTP Server screen in the right pane.
  • Enter mail.yourdomain.com in the Server Name field.
  • Make sure the box to Always use name and password is unchecked.
  • Leave the User Name field blank.
  • Click OK.

12. Enter Password Screen

  • In Netscape Mail, when you click once on the Get Msg button, the Enter your password screen will appear.
  • Enter your email password which appears on your Account Profile.
  • If you like, you may select Use Password Manager to remember this password in the future.

Autocheck Messages

Now that your new email account has been setup, you will want to tell the server to check for new messages. The following steps will take you through the process.

13. Open Mail Account Settings

  • With the Netscape mail client open click on the Edit menu.
  • Mouseover the Mail/News Account Settings and click once to open the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings Window.

14. Mail/News Account Settings: Server Settings

  • Click on the Server Settings option for your account in the left pane to display these settings in the right pane.
  • Make sure the box to Check for new messages every is checked.
  • Enter 15 minutes (or less) in the minutes field.
